Building deckhouse on a tanker ship
Sister-Ship BWMS Retrofits: 3 Aframax Oil/ChemicalTankers with Ecochlor® BWTS Installation

Services: BWMS Manufacturing Installation Representative. Crew Training. Commissioning Assistance. Class Documentation and Approval.

Description: All three vessels have ballast pumps in a cargo pump room with flow rates of 3600 m3/hr. The layout of required the Ecochlor BWTS: ET – 3600 – 6.0 to be installed on the non-hazardous side of the main deck and the two filters along with one chlorine dioxide injection point was located in the cargo pump room. Filter in engine room with 2nd chlorine injection point.

Challenge: Hazardous zone filter deckhouse installation. The first set of installations were done during the same dry dock without additional support from electrical and plumbing subcontractors, causing delays in the installation.

Solutions: Sister ships are not exactly alike so you need to react quickly to find solutions for obstacles or measurements inaccuracies or get 3-D scan of all vessels. The last retrofit of the sister ships used the same shipyard, engineering and manufacturing teams which allowed for a shorter dry dock period and relatively trouble-free installation.
