With less than two hours to design and construct working models, the teams created vessels to compete in timed runs and were also scored based upon several other criteria. The competition provides students with a unique opportunity to put their skills and knowledge to the test, while also gaining experience in a fun, collaborative setting.

NETSCo has been sponsoring the Student Design Competition for 14 years, with the mindset and goal of showcasing students the interesting opportunities available in maritime engineering while exchanging ideas and working together to solve the challenge.

Overall, the 2023 SNAME Student Design Competition was a resounding success, with many talented students showcasing their skills and demonstrating their passion for marine engineering. NETSCo looks forward to continuing to support and promote the next generation of maritime engineers and naval architects through future competitions and initiatives.
